I also tried NetBeans ( - also working in Linux, Windows and MacOS) and DevC++ ( - Windows only), plus a short stint with CLion (which I did not liked - but that's a personal thing). However, it can also deal with bigger projects.

It is also easy to use, almost straightforward. For educational purposes it is very simple to setup, just download and install the version that contains the mingw tools.
